Everything in Cameron Enders' life feels like a dream since she took a trip to a remote island where she met Tristan Michaels, Hollywood's hottest man. Tristan never imagined that his get-away vacation would change his life and his heart.
But everything isn’t perfect in paradise once Cameron and Tristan return to Phoenix. When Cami discovers a dark secret, her dream becomes a living nightmare. She slips back into old habits, turning to alcohol to hide her pain. As the woman he loves becomes more a stranger by the day, Tristan’s world is rocked again. He’s a helpless witness to Cami’s self-destructive cycle - until she pushes too far, testing the limits of his love. Their love is far from perfect, but he will stop at nothing, chasing it all until she has everything she deserves.
Cami’s withdrawal could strengthen or destroy everything she hopes to have with Tristan. Can Cami trust him enough to give him everything or will she cling to her secrets and their pain, tearing them apart forever?
Excerpts
Excerpt
#1:
“Goddammit, Bobby, this is not the way to go
about this. There are other options.”
“Options like what? Hiding or wandering around
wondering if I am going to get shot or killed?”
“Think about her, about your family, your
friends, your life.”
“Shut up, Vinnie. This is the only way I can do
this and you know it. If I die by their hands, they win and my daughter will
never be safe. If I die by my hands and within my control, she remains safe,
the business goes on, she takes over, and life goes on, just as it would go on
if I died without all this bullshit.”
“I know, but...dammit, Robert, she’s not ready
for this. She hates you; she won’t take over the business, and she will resent
you for the rest of her life.”
“She won’t have a choice. My final will and
testament will see to that. As far as resenting me goes, I’m pretty sure she
already does that.”
Excerpt #2:
“Hi,
guys, why the serious faces?” I open the fridge, grab the bottle, then turn,
pulling a wineglass down from the overhead rack. “Want some?” I ask them both.
Beau
nods.
“Have
any beer?” asks Mick.
I roll
my eyes at him. “Of course,” I say, reaching for another glass from the rack. I
pour Beau and myself a glass of wine, and when I return to fridge to put the
bottle away, I grab a Sam Adams from the door. I pull the bottle opener off the
fridge and pop the cap, tossing it into the hole in counter that leads to the
trash can below. Their faces are pissing me off. I slide the beer to Mick. “All
right, what is going on?”
“Are you
all right?” Beau asks me, and I can see the pity in her eyes and it drives me
nuts.
“Yes,
I’m fine, but my well-being is not at all why the two of you are here. So spill
it.” I look at Mick, since the package is in front of him.
“This
came to my office while we were in Tarah. I didn’t know how you’d react or feel
about it if I brought it up in front of Tristan.” Mick has a somber look in his
eyes and I can’t quite understand why.
“An
unnecessary worry, but okay.” I shrug. “What is it?” I take a long sip of my
wine. I have the feeling that the moscato is going to be nowhere near strong
enough for whatever this is. I debate momentarily about the bottle of Crown
sitting on the pantry shelf behind me, then decide it is probably better to
wait until I find out what is going on first.
“It’s
from your father.”
Excerpt #3:
“Cams,”
I say, and she jumps and screams. I rush toward her, but I am too late and the
glass she's holding shatters all over the tile floor. “Don’t move,” I say as I
come around the couch and realize that she's barefoot. And it takes me only a
minute to realize that she is still wearing the same clothes as when I left on
Tuesday. “Let me get a broom and some towels, please don’t move.”
“What
the hell are you doing here?”
She’s
angry, but I’m not sure that her anger is directed at me.
“I
finished early so I came—” I look at her then, in the light of the blue screen
of the TV, and her eyes are completely raccooned and she has streaks of black
mascara running down her cheeks. “What is going on?”
She
plops back down on the couch. “I’m drunk. Very drunk.” Her words slur horribly
as she tells me all of this.
“I can
tell,” I say as I walk toward the kitchen and the pantry where I know there is
a broom and dustpan. I grab it, along with the roll of paper towels on the
counter, and go back into the living room. I flick on the side table light, and
she squints and covers her eyes. “I need to see to clean this up.” But I look
to the floor and near the TV. This isn’t the first glass she’s shattered. On
the wall on both sides of the TV there are stains dripping down to the floor,
and underneath those are piles of clear, broken glass.
Jesus.
“Cams, talk to me.... What is going on?”
